I daresay it’s even better than the real Super Mario 64. It’s good enough to have been made by Nintendo themselves, but most of it was made by a single romhacker. If this was a real Nintendo 64 game, it would’ve been a smash hit that sold millions. I honestly find it hard to believe it’s possible for this to exist even after playing through the entire thing multiple times. I’m not even exaggerating when I say this is the greatest romhack ever created. Mario must collect many more stars, and after reaching eighty, he gains access to Rashay’s Moon Cellar, where, with the help of the colored Goombas, he defeats Rashay and rescues princess peach, and they all have dinner outside of Peach’s Castle. With rescuing Princess Peach and stopping Rashay now being the objective, Mario continues onward into the Shadow Factory, fights Shadow Mario, and then uses the key he obtains to reach the rocket ship, which he uses to go to the moon. He continues on, collecting more stars, and eventually, Rashay appears, revealing himself as the problem on the moon, and kidnaps Princess Peach, he then escapes, as the colored Goombas appear again, much stronger this time, and Mario once again defeats them. Still worried about the moon, he continues collecting stars, with the next objective being to get into the Shadow Factory, after he collects enough, colored Goombas appear to fight him and are defeated. The game starts out with two tiny meteors crashing down and becoming Prickly Piranha Plants that threaten Princess Peach, Mario goes over to defeat them, then Princess Peach warns Mario of danger coming and the moon.įrom here, Mario collects stars in various worlds, unlocking more with the number of stars he collects, and eventually defeating Bowser. This hack presents many things that weren’t in previous hacks or the original game, including new power-ups, custom music and objects, and unique boss fights. Even for those who were not fans of Kaze Emanuar’s other major work, Super Mario 64 Last Impact, you will be delighted to know the custom code and missions in this mod are a lot more technically sound and polished than in Super Mario 64 Last Impact. In this hack, Mario only has 6 health instead of the normal 8 and a separate gauge for air underwater. Other than that, it is a perfect game and one of the best non-sandbox 3D-platerformers in the world. The only downside is it does not work on real hardware. The soundtrack is also amazing, even if it is mostly just songs taken from other games in the Super Mario 64 soundfont. For example, one level will have you racing a Mario Kart within the Super Mario 64 engine instead of platforming, and another will have you flying the Sandbird from Super Mario Sunshine through an entire level, rather than just a few standalone red coins. Many levels in Super Mario 64 Land have unique gimmicks to make them feel completely fresh. The gameplay is also highly varied by comparison to the often dull nature of the official linear Mario games. Unlike the official linear Mario games, Super Mario 64 Land has extremely creative level design, taking players from everywhere from a giant house, to a vapor wave-themed world, and even to a world based off legacy Mario content. Super Mario 64 Land is a Super Mario 64 romhack by Kaze Emanuar which has linear levels and game progression similar to Super Mario 3D Land or Super Mario 3D World instead of the traditional sandbox style of the Nintendo 64 classic and most of its romhacks.Īs unappealing as that may sound to many considering how much less popular linear Mario games usually are, Super Mario 64 Land turns linear Mario into what it should be, blowing the level design of the official linear Mario games out of the water.
